With over twenty years’ experience, I specialise in commercial litigation and probate and estate administration disputes. Whilst educated in England, I was born and raised in Hong Kong and I am fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese.

I have extensive experience in securities regulatory investigations and enforcement actions, financial services disputes, shareholders disputes and minority shareholders actions. In addition to commercial litigation, I have extensive experience in family disputes working on high profile – and at times contentious – probate and estate administration matters.

Career Highlights

  • I have advised the executors of the Estate of Chen Din Hwa (the founder of the Nan Fung group) since 2012 in relation to a variety of complex estate administration issues
  • I have advised PricewaterhouseCoopers, the administrators of the Estate of Li Chung, since 2009 in relation to various estate administration issues and litigations between the estate and the beneficiaries
  • I have acted for CITIC Limited in the MMT and successfully defended CITIC Limited in the first regulatory case in Hong Kong for disclosing false or misleading information inducing transactions in breach of Section 277 of the SFO based on a statement of no material adverse change
  • I have acted for China Resources Power Holdings Limited and successfully defended it, a major PRC state-owned enterprise, against claims brought by minority shareholders based on allegations of misfeasance in relation to a RMB 10 billion natural resource project in Shanxi province
  • I have advised the professional executor of the Estate of Lim Por Yen (the founder of Lai Sun Group), in a contested probate dispute since 2005
  • I acted for China Man-made Fiber Corporation, a listed Taiwanese company, against Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC in HCA 2756/2008, an action concerning losses suffered as a result of structured derivative products
  • I acted for a high net worth Hong Kong individual against HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA in HCA 406/2010, an action concerning losses suffered as a result of the structured derivative products
  • I acted for a high net worth PRC individual against DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd in HCA 2279/2008, an action concerning losses suffered as a result of the structured derivative products
  • I acted for Legend International Resorts Limited, a Philippine based casino operator, in defending winding-up proceedings instituted by a Morgan Stanley fund entity against a background of competing work-out proposals, in the High Court of Hong Kong and the Court of Appeal of Hong Kong (which case remains the leading authority on Hong Kong insolvency and cross border work-outs)
  • I acted for Peregrine Fixed Income Limited (in liquidation) against JPMorgan Chase Bank, 2004 to 2007 in a dispute over the closing out of ISDA swap transactions
