On 8 October 2020, our Partner Eddy So and Senior Associate Jun Kwong presented and shared their views on the topic “Roles and Responsibilities of Key Persons in Intermediary Management Function” at a seminar organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) for its members. At the beginning of the event, Ms. Selina Lau, Chief Executive, HKFI, gave an interesting introduction to the topic, which was followed by insightful opening remarks by Mr. Peter Gregoire, General Counsel & Head of Market Conduct (Acting), the Insurance Authority.
It is hoped that the event has encouraged the insurance industry to pay attention to corporate governance issues relating to Key Persons in Intermediary Management Function. The Intermediary Management Function is the 6th designated control function of an authorised insurer under the Insurance Ordinance, which involves establishing and maintaining internal control measures for administering insurance agencies and agents in relation to the regulated activities carried on by them and monitoring and ensuring compliance with the law, regulations and guidelines by the insurance intermediaries.
Our Partner Eddy So presented the topic “Ethical Walls for Law Firms” to members of the Law Society of Hong Kong for a Risk Management Education course. Eddy’s presentation covered the legal and ethical principles relating to establishment of Ethical walls (or information barriers) in scenarios where there is a potential conflict of duty / interest affecting a law firm’s representation of a client.
